I love farm life. I grew up on a farm. We raised cows, pigs, rabbits, dogs geese and horses (all for 4-H). I learned how to grow my own food, mow a lawn, and clean out stalls. It was a great place to grow up. My brother was my best friend. We would play basketball and baseball with the neighbors after evening chores were done. So I was very excited when Dave and I were able to return from Asia and purchase a small farm in Indiana. Indiana is a return to our roots, both our families hail from Indiana and recently I have found a family connection. Several generations back, on my dad’s cousins side the families interconnect. (No shared blood blood, my dad cousin is related on their dad’s side and the connection comes on his mother’s side, but fun nevertheless). So it makes sense the first quilt I would design upon returning to my sewing room would be about a farm! I call it, Cordi visits the Farm, named for my granddaughter Cordelia who adores my chickens and likes to see pictures of them.
The trivets were so easy to make, I took a 10″ square of leftover quilt batting and just put two fabrics together (right sides together) in the center, sewed them with the 1/4″ seam allowance, then open them, pressed, and kept adding fabric until the square was filled. I used one of my dinner plates as a template to cut them into a round shape and then bound them with bias binding. (all of this was using leftovers from making the quilt). If you would like a tutorial on how to make these just follow this link to the “We All Sew” by Berina. If you would like to purchase a kit that comes with the directions and all the fabric needed just click on the picture of the quilt and it will take you to my Etsy shop.
